Hello Everyone,
The 2009/2010 Park and Pipe team had an amazing year full of many
successes At the same time, it was a very unusual season with scheduling
issues and the lack of venues for pipe training and competitions due to
the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
The athletes, however, were not fazed and some interesting things
happened. For instance, slope style skiing was added to the CFSA schedule
and we had our first Jr. and Sr. Nationals with BC placing well in both
events. As well BC Freestyle added slope style to the BC Championships.
The event was high in attendance and a very big step forward for our
province.
With no park and pipe events yet in the winter Olympics, some of our BC
athletes were still able to showcase their skills and talents on the world
stage by joining the Fire and Ice Remix show-jumping team. These athletes
not only performed in front of thousands of people, multiple broadcasting
companies televised their talent all over the world creating a new
awareness for the sport of slope style skiing.
With the happenings of the Olympics, pipe training was virtually
impossible for the majority of the winter. With Cypress’ pipe being closed
to the public for the Olympic Snowboard events and Whistler’s pipe at the
heart of the bustling Olympics, we had no venue for the team.
At the end of the year, the athletes finally got back into the pipe and
posted some great results. Athletes qualified both for semi-finals and
finals at the world skiing invitational.
I am very proud of each athlete on my team, and took great pleasure in
coaching you all this season. You all showed me how dedicated you are and
how much you love the sport. Each one of you is at the heart of this
sports progression.
This season would never have been as successful as it was without the huge
support and drive from the parents and volunteers. I would like to
personally thank all of you for taking bigger and bigger steps forward
each year and sacrificing your time to make sure these athletes get the
support they deserve. There is no way this program would work without your
efforts.
Thank you all for the help and the help to come as this sport continues to
grow,
Myles Ricketts
